Founded in the 1980’s, Duncan Thompson Building Concepts has been operating for more than two decades throughout the eastern and bayside suburbs. We have successfully completed more than 1000 quality home extensions, additions and renovations in Melbourne and have established a significant referral base.

Managing Director Chris French is a second generation specialist domestic builder with over 33 years experience and oversees the most professional and innovative specialist Home Extensions company in Victoria.

Duncan Thompson Building Concepts is registered with both the HIA and MBA and has established an impressive reputation, particularly in projects ranging from $50,000 to $500,000. Our design team consists of qualified architects, draftspersons, and builders hand-picked for their expertise in residential house extensions, additions and home renovations. Their forward thinking creates a great family investment for our clients.

How We Work

Our design consultants are dedicated to creating unique home renovations and designs specific to your family’s requirements, within your budget constraints.

Initially, we assess the feasibility of the proposal to ensure that our client’s brief and expectations are viable within the context of the site, the existing house, planning and building regulations, and the nominated budget.

As the designs evolve we monitor the likely project cost and the expected time frames of the home extensions, and keep the client informed to eliminate costly surprises.

Our expertise in dealing with TOWN PLANNING, RESCODE, HERITAGE OVERLAYS, and in obtaining BUILDING PERMITS, informs the design process and provides our clients with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that these sometimes difficult issues are being expertly handled.

When the design is complete it is presented to the clients. The presentation includes accurate, computer-generated and coloured perspective drawings, detailed floor plans and elevations, and detailed specifications. If required, a 3D computer model and walk-through of the project can be arranged. Only after the client fully understands the design and specifications are they asked to approve the project and proceed to the next stage.

After comprehensive quality assurance procedures have been completed, the working drawings and contracts are prepared. When the contract is completed, and after insurance and permits have been secured, the house extension and renovation begins.

Our staff are chosen on their ability and expertise in home extensions. We have a program that employs apprentices and provides for an ongoing educational progression through the firm.

We provide the services of a qualified Interior Decorator to assist you in the selection of tiles and fittings including a colour scheme to enhance and fully integrate your house extensions project.
